Contractor’s Yard Sale

Due to the various exposure issues surrounding our annual Contractor’s Yard Sale, Home Builders Association of the Southwest and Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County have made the decision to not hold our historic one-day sale. Instead, we are taking building materials intended for the sale and selling them through the ReStore.

Generous contributions from multiple nationwide vendors have been donated to Habitat and our local lumber yards have been graciously transporting the materials down to Durango! We are very thankful for their continued support—Alpine Lumber, Lewis Mercantile, Builder’s First Source and Stud’s Lumber have all played a role in these efforts.

Beginning July 18th, 2020, Alpine Lumber will be bringing items to the ReStore. Our ReStore staff will be pricing and then selling the items through August 31, 2020. The lumber yards will be dropping off materials over several weeks, as space allows in the ReStore front parking area. In addition, new doors and windows will be sold in the back yard.

All sales from these efforts will benefit the Home Builder’s Association of Southwest Colorado and Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County. As we have product dropped off, we will price and upload to our ReStore Dropbox for you to look at…no holds, simply first come, first serve, Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.!

Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County will be using our proceeds to complete the current two homes being constructed in Bayfield.

Your purchases will directly impact the addition of two more affordable homes for deserving low-income households in La Plata County! Be apart of some positive actions in so much uncertainty!

We appreciate you shopping at our ReStore while coming alongside us in building for a healthier community, where supporting those in needs has a viable place!

Habitat Holds You In Our Hearts!

Dear Friends of Habitat,

On behalf of our Durango staff, we stand beside you as we look with Hope toward our community’s most urgent needs. We would like to share our response to the Coronavirus pandemic and how we seek to move forward.

These challenging times warranted an immediate closure of our ReStore to protect the safety of our amazing staff. Susie, Wolf, Willie, Annie and Daniel worked hard to secure the store for their leave of absence. Our decision was based on the uncertainty of Coronavirus having the ability to linger on surfaces and unknowingly infect one of our staff or customers. Our administrative staff has arduously become remote and can be reached at their perspective emails:

As many of you are aware, we have a duplex scheduled to Break Ground in May for two deserving households, very much in need. Our unfortunate postponement of our amazing volunteers, families and community supporters, ensures we protect and adhere to safety protocols. My heart is heavy knowing that so many in our community have already been impacted by closures to their businesses, lost jobs and economic hardship. As you have often partnered with us in our mission, we see our village as needing each other more than ever.

We will undoubtedly continue to provide updates, as needed on our plans for our 2020 BUILD and the re-opening of the ReStore. Please hold onto those gently used items, furniture and appliances. Someday soon we hope to be knocking at your door to collect your donation! Our main concern now is your safety and well-being.

Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County stands committed to support the hard-working households who need affordable homeownership. As we speak,  several households are diligently working on sweat equity hours toward owning  their own home. One household is in essence homeless; yet, deserving in every way. The economic downturn will surely impact everyone. In an environment full of uncertainty, we have an abundance of faith and hope in our combined recovery. We welcome your stories and thoughts as we weather this period-Please continue to connect with us through facebook.com/HFHLPC/.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, we hold you close to our hearts and pray for our community-locally and globally!

In Partnership,

Rachel Taylor-Saghie
Executive Director
