Volunteer
Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County couldn’t accomplish the work we do without the help of dedicated volunteers. Countless hours go into each Habitat home, but volunteer opportunities are not limited to construction work. Further opportunities include serving on committees, helping in our ReStore, providing lunch to hungry construction volunteers, and participating in a limitless variety of events. Check out the volunteer pages to get involved!
With so many things to do, why choose to volunteer with Habitat? Here's why...
Habitat is a partnership founded on common ground which bridges theological differences by putting faith into action. The hammer is used as an instrument to manifest God's love. While we may differ in some ways, we can agree on the powerful importance of building homes with people in need. In working together we realize that our commonalities vastly outweigh our differences.
HFHLPC’s program-model is built on the belief that homeownership is vital in helping families break the cycle of poverty while nurturing family and community well-being. The stability of homeownership is beneficial to families in countless ways! Children of homeowners versus renters achieve greater academic success, are more likely to graduate high school, go on to higher education and have lower rates of teen pregnancy. Local involvement amongst homeowners is far greater which enhances community-family health and well-being. Volunteer built homes not only incur lower construction costs but also create lasting community connections between volunteers and Habitat partner families.
With an inventory that includes gently used and brand new household items and building supplies, the ReStore is a wonderful resource for our community. Open Monday - Saturday and needs volunteers each day. Please sign up in advance so we can plan for projects! Working at the ReStore can get a little dirty so please wear appropriate clothes and proper shoes.
