Enterprise Zone Opportunity:

Once again we would like to thank you for your support of Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County. Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County holds an Enterprise Zone designation. All those contributing $250 + during the calendar year may request that we complete the appropriate document to ensure the donor can claim their proper credit. Thus, if you are interested in using this avenue in 2014, please note the required minimum contribution ($250) and the recent requirement for proper identification.

Due to a change in how the Enterprise Zone (EZ) tax credit is now reported to the State of Colorado we are required to obtain one of the following in order for us to process your credit.

  • FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number)
  • SSN (Social Security Number) CAN (Colorado Account Number)

How to acquire a Colorado Account Number:

  • To get a CAN immediately online, please visit the following website, www.colorado.gov/revenueonline and login to your tax account. Please note that you the taxpayer may need to verify some information about yourself for security purposes such as the amount of their last tax filing in order to login.
  • You can also request your CAN be mailed to you by making a letter request online from the same site. This is expected to take about a week. For Colorado Account Number information, call 303-238-7378 with questions on either process.

The CAN was created to provide Colorado taxpayers an alternative to using their SSN on documents such as EZ Tax Credit Forms. We will be unable to process an EZ tax credit form without having been provided your FEIN / SSN or CAN number. It is imperative that we receive this information as soon as possible if you intend to use the Enterprise Zone Credit. You may contact our accounting office (970-382-2215), with this information. For contributions in 2014, we can issue EZ documents within 30 days of donation/request. However, we ask that all 2014 request for EZ be submitted prior to January 15, 2015.
